A sweet taste of Oklahoma, from our vantage point

Well, we have been here almost one and half months now... Long enough to share with you what life in Oklahoma has been like. Enjoy!

Here is a beautiful picture of a storm rolling through...

Eli in his favorite play spot on base. Yipee!

The Wichita mountains near Lawton, Oklahoma.

All he wild life we saw IN the Wichita's wildlife refuge.
The bird you see is called a Kite. If you ate not careful and center too close to their nests, you can find yourself being dive bombed!! Trust me, they will attack..

The wildlife refuge we hiked around in..

I love that adventurous husband of mine!!

And our silly adventure dog :)

Our rest spot! Isn't it beautiful??

That thing to the right of our trail, in the field, is a buffalo! We weren't sure how to get past it at first, but my brave Andrew went ahead of us so we could get by safely! Phew!!

Another rest spot! Makes me miss the TN mountains for sure :(

Frozen self served yogurt!! Yum!!

Quartz mountain state park! Wow!

The beach at the park.

After a run out there, I realized just how badly I needed some more running shoes.

Can you tell the difference?? ;)

Snakes and cotton!! Commonality? Both very plentiful here-- YIKES!

Look! We found 'Mater here....hmm.. Actually, I don't know if that is encouraging or discouraging..

Yea, we are in the land of the cowboys now :)

A monument in Oklahoma City of the Oklahoma Land Run... Pretty neat little byte of history that explained the reasoning for the football team name, the Sooners.

And here is home sweet home...

Well.. Kinda :) It's a temporary home, but what home outside our eternal dwelling place can really be called home?

"And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts..." Acts 2:46

Blessings!!

What am I thankful for??

Summing up the weekend in Austin, TX with thankfulness...

Just tonight, I have been relishing in all that my God has given this life... And all the miracles he has given an underserving life like mine.

"How deep the father's love for us... That he would send his only son to make a wrench his treasure."--church hymn

And I feel like a precious treasure as much as he gives me all the time: He has given me a life worth living, a man that loves me with all his heart, a wonderful dog, a great and wonderful family that cares, friends that embrace and pray for you, and a body that is healthy by being graciously redeemed from all the abuse my past life put it through. And everything else good I get to experience is just that yummy icing on the cake: like our NEW truck we have been praying about and all of our most recent Starbucks trips! :) (yes, it's the little things)

So, just a quick word of thankfulness I thought I would share with you about my Savior before I hit the sack. May God richly bless you as he has me... Because he will :)

"20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21

Changing again.. But this time, to better love and trust my Savior!

Happy September from us all... And Eli!

Being September, I can say change has been the one thing God has definitely grown Andrew and I in tremendously! Since April, our lives have been on one crazy coaster of events. Firstly, I graduated College—finally, haha! Yey! I am an official graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences… and Andrew graduated too, from pilot training! Double yey!

(our yummy carrot cake!!)

And the best part of all… we finally got our assignment. And it came with a good amount of faith building as well.

As the excitement of April’s exams ended and May’s graduation died down, we were preparing for the next very exciting and stressful event: choosing Andrew’s pilot assignment. We had not neglected to pray for our assignment since the beginning of training… but as we approached it, we really had a hard time deciding on how we wanted order our choices (we were given a list of 28 or so choices of the different planes available for the pilots to choose; our job was to put them in order of our preference). We had a few hutches of where we wanted to go with it… but once it was down on paper, neither of us had a really peace about turning it in. We prayed fervently about our situation and God was, again, very very faithful to our situation. Andrew met with a couple of Godly, trusted men and when he returned, he stated we had a game plan: since we couldn’t decide, we would leave the choice up to the Lord. We put down our top 3 choices for all three categories (heavy planes, fighter planes, and instructing on the T-6/T-38) for our top three choices. I have to admit, it was a very out there order, but we were finally at peace with what we put down. Our first choice was the C-17. It’s the newer heavy plane and its mission appealed to both of us. However, the best part came when we learned about the two systems that C-17 were in. One is called the AMC. Air mobility command... I am still not sure what that means, but I do know that it encompasses all of the systems outside of the pacific and it's bordering countries. That area is in the system known as the Pacific Air Force (PacAF). And of the two systems, we were drawn to the PacAF. And that is what we prayed about...

(the C-17)

Through those next couple of days, I just stood on faith. God held me be strong and brought sweet promises to mind: Hebrews 11:6, Romans 4:20-21, Matthew 14:13-33, Colossians 3:1-3…and on and on and on! My heart was refreshed with His love. With every morning He met with me, he always seemed to place faith passages in my devotions, discipling my heart as I stepped out with faith that this is where God wanted us. Our Father is so so good to His children!

By the time our assignment night rolled up, the Lord had strengthened my faith in such a way that I knew we would get the C-17 in the PacAF… but I did not where we would be ending up. And SURE ENOUGH, the slide came up, Andrew marched over and gave me a confident kiss and we realized where exactly our next location would be: ALASKA!!!!!!

Yup! We are headed to Alaska folks! We report on January 31st.

But first, a teaser: a month of training in Spokane, WA and three months in Altus, Oklahoma!

Andrew and I enjoyed the next couple of weeks just spending time with family and getting him graduated (We were blessed to have 40 PEOPLE show up for his graduation ceremony!! What a great support group!).

After the busyness of spending time with families and friends, we went to the beach for some family time: Andrew, Eli and I! It was quite the relaxation we needed-

but Eli did not much enjoy it! It was quite the sight to see, I must say. He got plummeted by the waves, the salty water was not as refreshing as he thought it should be, and his rolling technique to get him dry backfired as he would end up with sand down his little nose and in his eyes…

pooooor Eli!

However, all came to a roaring end as we rushed back to get Andrew packed up and ready to go to Survival in Spokane, Washington. Once he left the vicinity, my mission was to pack us up and move us to a local storage unit before he came back.

Taking on a huge load like that by myself was just like me: being arrogantly independent and over confident in my non existent strength. God soon broke that yoke as I broke down in tears and in humility. My loving family gave me lots of support. From helping hands to ministering words of encouragement, the Lord lifted my heavy load, just as he promises- Matthew 11:28.

(all packed up!!)

After all of our possessions were transferred into storage, my nomadic trip began! It started out at our best friends' house, the Hoppens. They graciously laid out the offer when I found myself with no where to sleep for the next couple of nights left in Columbus. I was so incredibly thankful for their hospitality and the way they opened their arms to my presence lingering around their home. Eli loves being with them more than anybody so I was thankful that, of all places we could be, and without Andrew around, we got to be with them for a time.

From there I left for Memphis where I got to hang out with my Thornbury family!! I really enjoyed being with them, working with them, eating with them, laughing with them and just being apart of what they do everyday. And they helped me sell the Honda- hip hip hooray!! Eli enjoyed being with his buddy Elliott too!

I also got to visit with some friends that live there: One being Jac, who just blesses me consistently... Little to her knowledge, I was really struggling with two things in my walk with the Lord: trusting him and praying in my marriage more. Again, the Lord used his faithful servant Jac to bless me with literature and encouragement in both areas! And, on top of that, she fed me one of her gourmet meals while respecting my fast! So sweet... And so yummy!!

From there, mama kindly drove me back to Columbus where I retrieved Sally (my mustang) and drove her towards the Schultz house, catching up with my lovely friend Shannon and her husband since I knew it wouldn't be long before they were busy with the now born Emma Grace! It was great to stay with them too, since they just feel like extended family to me. It was crazy to say goodbye and realize the next time we would see each other she would be a seasoned mommy!! I kind of cried when I thought about it... But they were definitely tears of thankfulness and joy as she was my first very close friend to enter into the bounds of mommyhood. She is definitely a blessing as she invited me to become a close friend and include me in her discovery of what its like to be pregnant and be a mommy. It is a privilege to be her friend!

Here she is...Sweet Emma Grace :) !!!

I took off on a Friday morning for my journey to Knoxville.. Coming to see my mamadee, daddio, Mattie moo, Ty Ty and all the rest of the friendly faces I love!! It was nice to be home... And talk about change!! The house next to ours was growing rapidly (and massively!!) and our house was getting a facelift: there was a roof going on the back porch! It looks great :)

As always, my family and I had a great time together, had some awesome fellowship and many adventures (as usual!). One of my favorite times though was with my daddio. My mom and I are naturally very close (outside of Andrew, she is u closest friend!!) but I don't usually get to spend a lot of one on one time with my pops. God was kind to bless me with my dad's time that he carved out for me as we talked about where God's guiding hand was taking him. It's now the one thing I am most encouraged to do now: let my thoughts check with his before answering anyone in my own opinion (Isaiah 55:8). I am blessed with a wise father figure! I do not take it for granite.

Of course, my trip was marked by the love and care of Bonnie, Grammy, Terry and many others... But there is no way I can even try to write about the ways they blessed me except to give thanks to God in the mentioning of their names. By the end of the two weeks there, I was ready to see my Andrew. Life just isn't the same without him!!

Bonz and I at graduation!

Two weeks later, I returned to Columbus to hang out with a dear friend Lindsay and await the arrival of my beloved!! Indeed, he came swiftly to me and I rejoiced as he was again in my arms!!! (sigh) He was also very glad to be home since survival was not the most restful of places to be for a month...

From there, we were on the road again! Memphis again!! And most of our time was spent with Papa and Uncle Steve. It was a sweet time as we got to rejoice and give praise to God for Papa's heart surgery going very well!

We also got to spend some sweet time in Michigan where we got to see.... Well, everyone! Uncle Steve's family, Uncle Bob and Aunt Betty, John Sweeney, ad KURT AND ASHLEY HELFRICH!!!

The reunion of ol' friends and the celebration a new marriage couldn't have been a more beautiful combination! It was a beautiful ceremony and one of our favorite weddings thus far. It was hard to say goodbye as it felt we had just arrived in Michigan but I was encouraged by the thought we would see them again as we journeyed to Alaska.

Andrew on our old school bikes!

After all of our Michigan fun, it was time to set out for our latest adventure: Oklahoma!!!! And how blessed we feel to be there currently... With the making of new friends and fellowship and the occurrences of familiar faces, God is abundantly providing for us a new place to grow in the Lord and call home for a while. Will keep you updated from here! Keep praying for our eyes to be opened to all that the Lord awaits to do so we may rejoice at his glorious and perfect work-- Deut. 32:4. Blessings!!

Keeping my word… one Blog spot posting at a time!

OH March. March has been a rollercoaster month so far. To be honest, I feel like I have just jumped off the deep end of the pool and forgotten how to swim! Yes, we have survived the sea of change by God’s grace, but it has been a definite spiritual struggle to stay afloat.

But on a most encouraging note, our God is still king. He is sustaining our souls forevermore. That is something we can be sure of on a daily basis. I can wake up in the morning and know that my God has given me salvation by crushing His most precious son for our sakes, and I do not have to fear condemnation ever again: Praise be to God! This is surely what gets me through each day that drags forever and each painful hour of knowing that the wind of change, of saying goodbye yet again, is just around the corner.

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?” Deut. 10:12-13

Isn’t our God good? Don’t you just feel thankful for His love after reading a refreshing passage like this? He is still living and active, loving His people just like He did the Israelites when He declared love like this to them thousands of years ago. I hope that bring you as much joy and encouragement as it has me today. We serve an amazing Creator!

I don’t have much to report or write about other than that. However, if I could ask you to pray for my Andrew as he tries to decide what path is best for our family in this flying career. We want to glorify the Lord in our decision and honor Him with the way we choose when we are indeed blessed with a family. The clock is ticking. We are down to three months now!!! YIKES!

I will leave you with some amazing footage of some up-close flying that we got to experience when my brother Tyler and his girlfriend Madison came to visit.

Truly a privilege to be able to do this with them!

Madison is SO excited! ;)

The pilot himself

He is preparing his very pricie vehicle for our show =)

WooHoo!! Here comes Andrew!!! (Too bad I couldn't upload the video-- it is amazing!)

... And here are the pilots that provided the day's entertainment wonderfully!

I LOVE MY FLY BOY!

Greetings from Eli!!!!

Our pup is getting so big!

Surely I have not been a faithful steward to all of you when I invited you into our life from our home in Columbus, Mississippi through the means of this blog. I sincerely apologize and I will now proceed to catch up where I have left off many months ago!

We have now completed Phase II and are now in the midst of Phase III… which means Andrew has switched planes on you! He is now flying the Talon 38, also known as the T-38 (here is a link to give you an idea about what Andrew is doing now and what a T-38 is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLC-qZ-_Xyw&feature=related). I think you would consider it the sports car of the sky =) God has been so kind to us and we know that this opportunity is a nothing less than a gift and definitely not deserved. Yet He is using it for His gospel purposes!

Andrew and I at his track select!

They went to the desserts of Arizona to visit the centrifuga, which is a place all the guys who get the T-38 have to go so they can pull many Gs--aka gravity--to ensure they can endure what they signed up for.

My crazy husband in his G suit!! Haha!

His friend Nate just about to pull many Gs at the centrifuga

Andrew before he pulled Gs-- he did great!!!

..but he got g-easles! (little bumps that looked like messles-- happened after he pulled 7.5 Gs!)

Andrew's new training class

It’s crazy how different this Phase was from the previous phase. But I am sure the main reason is because of God’s grace that has waken us up so that we might be given fullness of joy through Christ’s presence (Ephesians 5:14) He has given my wonderful husband favor to remember what foolish confidence (Psalm 49:13) is compared to true living, which is in Christ Jesus. Andrew now strives, with God’s Spirit, to share hope and the Lord’s salvation within his perimeter of ministry: boasting in the Lord continually as He interacts with his flight daily (Ps. 44:8). It is such a change from the T-6 days where anxiety would quickly extinguish where God desired to work in our lives for our good and His glory. Already God has blessed him with conversations that have given him an opportunity to point out the difference Christ has made in our lives compared to standard worldly living. Please continue to pray that He gives us many opportunities to talk with others about Christ Jesus and that He fill our mouths with boldness for the gospel (Eph 6:19)!

Marriage

(This is Lorato's finger with Jenna Barbee, Jenn Japp, Loren Simmons, my ring and her own ring!! I love my friends!!)

Can I also just praise God for the joy He gave us in coming home to spend time with a church that walks by the word? We left Knoxville greatly rejoicing after being so encouraged and refreshed with truths we have past learned but have been unfaithful to apply daily. Refreshing our memory with WHY we do what we do in our marriage has encouraged us greatly to take some steps back, purge what has not been glorifying to God in our relationship and step forward with a new game plan to carry out God’s blueprint for our marriage. Thus far, there has been much joy in doing so—but so much work still needs to be done! Be praying for both of our hearts as we learn the meaning of not using corrupting talk within our conversations (Colossians 4:6, Ephesians 4:29) and learning how to communicate within our home and outside of it so to display the mystery of the gospel through out marriage. Pray for Andrew’s leadership throughout this battle (as he has already begun to grow significantly in this way since we have returned from Knoxville) and my submission since I have a grave temptation (and a strong one, might I add) to take over my husband’s role. I want to be a gentle and quiet spirit as to please the Lord’s heart, not to please men or to be an eye-pleaser in itself (Colossians 3:23, 1 Peter 3:1-6). I want to fight to act in faith as if God has already given me these things—please plea with God that I pray and act on faith as Jesus commands us to in Mark 11:20-25 so to share the gospel through our marriage!!!

As far as fellowship goes, we have had A LOT of it! It is so wonderful to be fighting the faith with a group of believers that do not neglect to meet with one another but make it a weekly habit (Hebrews 10:24-25). We have been so encouraged in our Saturday morning fellowships (Navigators), in our Bible Studies (on Monday night) and in our accountability groups (Friday mornings). God has been presently and actively working in all of them and we have rejoiced for what we have witnessed amongst the believers we are associated with; particularly with some friends that just experienced a very trying hardship:

Our friends here (also pilots) just entered the realm of Phase III, as they too got the opportunity to move on to the T-38s, when the couple hit a deer on a date which resulted in temporary blindness for Adam, the husband and pilot. Within the following week, he regained eyesight, 20/20, in his left eye (praise God!) but his right eye, however, has not improved much nor worsened. He has gone to many doctors since the accident and they foresee two possible outcomes: either his cones (which are the damaged element) are temporarily discolored and will eventually heal, recovering his sight or the cones have been permanently scarred and his eye will never be used again. This, as you can imagine, is very confusing for the couple as they try to discern where to go from here. We have had many prayer meetings to pray with them and over them. We rejoice in the restored peace that is active in their lives again, but above all, we treasure how God has been most glorified through this situation. Adam has touched many lives here in Columbus before this incident and now, the Lord is making His name FAMOUS through his servants, Adam and Kristi, as they share the hope in which they cling to throughout this time. We are so thankful for them and count it a gift to be friends with them! Please continue to pray for God’s work here as they press forward in this time and for God’s will to be done in Adam’s situation.

In addition to the larger current events, many activities that I have been occupied with in the Phase II have undergone reformation or extinction. For example, I am no longer tutoring as I was a couple of months ago (consistency was lacking on my part in as a result of two different perceptions that both I and Sherry—the woman of whose children I tutored—held) and the little girl that I have babysat for almost seven months is now moving to Little Rock at the end of the month. Her father, previously Captain John MaGee, has now made Major (yey!) and received a new assignment. I am very happy for them all, but sadness is very present in this process as well (I actually choked up for a second as I looked at the pictures that I took in July of Alyssa and Eli when they were both much younger!!).

The girl I co-labor with in the Student Spouse Representing has also received another assignment that will move her and her husband to Alabama for helicopter (aka helo) training in the beginning of March. We discerned this possibility early, thankfully, and are in the process of training two other girls who will be taking over our job as our chapter for this opportunity is now coming to a close. Thus, my job as a spouse representative is also waning. Along with that, our wife bible study suddenly fell apart before completion, but what we considered bad God saw as good (Genesis 50:20 just continues to encourage me to remember God’s character never changes). He has given me other areas of opportunity to harvest where labor is lacking—like in the church, in the women’s bible study there, and encouraging girls/sharing Christ’s hope to new comers on base that are struggling to find a safe haven as a new resident of Columbus Air Force Base. I am also finishing up my last class for my degree and am FINALLY walking in the spring! Hooray!! Thus, good and new things have happened in our lives as a result of old things departing. Not to say that it gets easier in time—by no means! It is still hard saying goodbye and moving forward, but nothing is impossible with God (Phillipians 4:13).

Speaking of goodbyes, here was the last 1/2 Marathon I ran with a dear friend, Jac! Still praying whether this will be a last until after children or if I could pursue another one before that...

A funny from the kids ministry here at our present church, Mt. Vernon.

With all of that said, please continue to pray for Andrew and I as we walk out living by the word daily. Pray we fight our flesh and reclaim our inheritance where we have given it into Satan’s possession as he intends to wield and work against God in these areas. We are thankful for each one of you, that you should desire to keep up with our lives and pray for us! I thank my God for you always (Philippians 1:3-4) and pray he is filling you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding (Colossians 1:9-10) so you too might shine as a light in dark places for the glory of God (Matthew 5:16)!!

Here's something to leave you with: a craft Andrew and I did on Valentine's day! Isn't this awesome?? I have a creative husband (his is on the right-- isn't that spectacular?!)

This blog entry is dedicated to Melissa Hodgson and also (and always to my dad), who encouraged me to post this blog, thus I have been inspired to write again! Thank you both for stirring up this good work in me through love. THANK YOU—you both are dearly loved and missed!

May Grace be with you always….
